About Us

Forest School is a child-centered inspirational learning process, for holistic growth.

Its truly good for the mind, body, and soul. Traditional schooling is primarily for advancing knowledge, focusing on the mind. At Forest School we seek to connect learning to our whole body, encouraging the most true form of learning. Forest School is practiced around the world. Its roots began in Scandinavia where open-air free play is more than culture, its the way of life.

Our Forest School is a small group of home-educated children & their parent(s) who gather weekly for time to explore nature, build community, and learn about the world around us. A major part of our day is FREE PLAY!

Our Trail Guides are a group of homeschool parents who believe in intuitive learning. We believe that outdoor play is 100% more exciting than sitting down with a workbook. We have seen that learning and behavior challenges often disappear when children are out exploring nature. We wanted a better way for our children, so we created it.

“Play isn’t well understood by adults. Play is generally seen as the fun after the teaching has been done. Or, is misconceived as teacher directed activity that is “fun” that children must complete.”

-Kristen RB Peterson Play Based Learning

There is no formal ‘curriculum’ but each week we will take notice of the forest’s life cycle and the changes each season brings. We will focus on different topics, letting the children take the lead according to their interests.

Our days will consist of read aloud stories, poetry, hiking, nature sketches, games, and free play. We will focus on topics such as identifying plants + trees, forest safety + first aid, survival skills, way finding, life cycles of the forest, and more!

**Families are encouraged to attend together, but we will be hiking and exploring the forest. Take this into account with non-walkers and new walkers.
